about

For the 1916 commemorations we really wanted to make a track in the spirit of things but not to make a political comment as even though in hindsight the rising inspired a lot of good and positive things for ireland the venture itself was always going to be doomed to failure against unwinnable odds and unfortunately a lot of people lost their lives. Nonetheless it was a monumental moment for Ireland which we feel connected to.
So we decided to hone in on one element that we felt we are echoing now which is the electronic morse code broadcast from the GPO which is considered the first pirate radio broadcast in the world.
As Contour we felt akin to that as we put our message out across electronic signals although somewhat more complicated 100 years later.
While tracking down the morse code we came across YouTube user luachnambrog who had translated the morse code into an animation. We reached out to him and asked if we could collaborate and use his work in a video for our song.
We took the morse code and got a tempo and pitch from it and put a song around its flow. Anna then wrote lyrics that echoed the feeling of rising up and representing something you felt strongly about and then we added some visual syncopation of footage from the event.
We feel that as electronic musicians 100 years after the fact this was the best way we could represent ourselves and the feeling the rising brings to us now.
I wonder if they could ever have ever imagined banging electronic music though smile emoticon

History is your story
Ná déan dearmad
Blood ashes and tears

Fuair said bas ar son saoirse
na tíre seo
Yeah but do you feel free from fears?

Are you inhibited?
Have you been chained in anyway?
Are you placated?
Tell me have you slipped towards apathy?

Well then we think you need a rebellion
Yes we are calling for a rebellion
Oh yeah we think we need a revolution
Move your soul
Rise up! Rise up!

What do you stand for?
Who or what is your enemy?
Are you an ambassador?
What do you do bout inequality?
Oh yeah, I think you need a rebellion
Don't you want to stand up for a rebellion?
Oh yeah we ought to start a revolution
Move your soul
Rise up! Rise up!
